The Torrent blends surly guitar, haunting vocals and retro-future synths, all propelled by heavy, incendiary drums. Transcending genre with loud, melodic, drony rock, The Torrent wants you to get down.

Last year The Torrent released two new singles for Blocks Recording Club, Life Boat and Leopold Bloom. The songs are on the Building Blocks Volume 1 vinyl compilation LP, which came out in March 2010. A digital EP is due out later this year.

The Torrent’s first LP, Leonora Moreno, came out in 2009. In the Toronto Star, Ben Rayner said it was "a sexy/nasty slab of droning electro-pop sleaze, and my new favourite thing."

The Torrent is not named after a download protocol.

The Band

Michael Barry: electric guitar
Mike e.b. was in the Hidden Cameras for many years, and now plays with psych-noise band LSDoubleDCup. He also starred as Bart the security guard in the 2004 cult classic Dawn of the Dead. He plays a skinhead in Atom Egoyan’s Adoration.

Cameron Groves: vox/keys
Cameron put together the videos for Musik Machine and Catherine Deneuve, using vintage film footage, pulsing white boxes and flying cat heads. Working with Philippe Blanchard and dancer Brodie Stevenson, he is also part of an experimental video/music project called Night Visions.

Steve Karges: drums
Steve's first show with The Torrent was the Building Blocks Release at the Gladstone, March 2010. Steve is a metal drummer, so you can forget what The Torrent used to sound like.
